Edward Carroll “Ed” King born: June 1, 1932 - died: April 30, 2015 - Age: 82 & 11/12th
I got an email from Albert Tucker saying Ed King died April 30, 2015. Ed was an active Texas Master checker player who was the Texas State Champion many times. He was always an agreeable gentleman and a likeable friend to all who knew him. He finished 1st place last year at the Texas Open and recognized as the 2014 Texas State Champion and also the District 8 Champion. Ed has won the Texas State Championship 15 times in a row, ever year since Professor H. L. Cravens, Jr. of Brownwood died in 1994, excluding the three years which Rupert Boeselt won it in 2004 & 2005, and no TX Tourney in 2006. Ed won his other state titles prior to this. Ed was an ACF Life-Time Member.

Edward Carroll King, 82,
passed away on April, 30, 2015 in Wichita Falls at United Regional Hospital.
His life will be rejoiced by family and close friends in a Celebration of
Life at McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home in Graham, Texas on May 3, 2015
from 2 to 4 pm.
Edward was the youngest of six children born to the late William Young King
and Dona Clara Holley King on June 1, 1932. He lived the majority of his
life in Graham, Texas, where he ran a successful painting business for more
than 50 years. Although soft spoken and overly kind, he was quick with a
joke, laugh and hug.
Edward was a remarkable checker player who held the Texas State Champion
Title 22 times, as well as holding state titles in other states including
Oklahoma and Louisiana.
Edward is survived by his wife of 61 years, Velma “Louise” Beard King of
Graham, Texas, who loved and cared for him through to the end of his blessed
life. He is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Chadwick of Collinsville,
Oklahoma, and Teresa Carver of Aledo, Texas, as well as his sons, Mark King
of Watagua, Texas, and Larry King of Galveston, Texas. He is also survived
by his sister, Faye Martin, and brother Elbert King of Graham. He has seven
grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Edward touched the heart and funny bone of everyone. He will be fondly
remembered and missed for his unconditional love and continual warmth.
